I received this saw from Amazon in a fast shipping fashion. I have used Stihl, Echo, Poulan and other brands but this is the best starting and running saw i have ever used. I followed directions on starting and it started the second pull and the first pull there after. It sure has the power to cut big trees and it is a breeze for limbs. Know wonder they put a seven year warranty on there chainsaws.

I decided to take a chance on this chainsaw after reading the other positive reviews...and I regret it.

The chainsaw comes without the blade attached and the instructions were made in China as well as the chainsaw. I could not figure out the second step of assembly which read something along the lines of "Remove the side panel as pinching the rear of the side panel". I pinched the side panel in several different places but failed to remove the panel. Four phone calls to the Tanaka service department and I was finally instructed how to remove the side panel (which was pretty simple though not at all intuitive).

After getting the side panel off and the blade on, the screw that tightens the chain snapped in half before I had applied hardly any pressure. At that point, I drove to the nearest Tanaka outlet (an hour away) only to find that they were going out of business (the power equipment store that was selling the saws, NOT the Tanaka company) and weren't doing...Read more

First - a gripe. Why do non-native English speakers feel competent to write technical manuals in English. I wouldn't dream of writing in Chinese and rightly so. Frankly, the manual is confusing and misleading. If you follow the initial steps regarding the installation of the bar/chain you will miss a critical requirement, first releasing the brake band.

I had bought this particular brand because Tanaka has a fairly good reputation in the lawn care industry for building reliable long lasting 2-stroke motors. I don't know when they shifted production to China but this model is definitely not made in Japan. My impression is they have applied a great deal of cost reduction in the design, however overall build quality seems adequate.

After assy, oiling, gassing, etc, the engine started on the fifth pull - not bad for the first start (with old 87 octane gas to boot). After warming up, I stopped it and re-tightened the chain which had loosened considerably...Read more
