Summary: Bought this Efco 147-16 as a smaller saw, 2009-06-27
Comment: To use as for jobs that my Stihl Farm Boss with 20" bar is just too big for,

I've used the 147 for about 50-hours and the only real complaint I have (other than it is still bigger than I need for the smaller jobs I originally bought it for, the MT4000 is the saw I should've bought) is the screw-tight-loosen gas and oil filler caps,

Those caps are easy (the gas especially) to cross-thread, The Stihl is simply a half-turn lock/unlock in that respect, Also the Efco filler neck is flush with the tank so it can allow debris to fall into the tank when refilling if you don't clean around the neck, Nothing major, but something to be aware of,

I've also noticed the 147 seems to run a little hotter than the Stihl, I use the same gas mix for both saws, 89octane at 50:1 using Stihl 2-cycle oil, I may start using 93 octane to see if that helps with the heat,

The good news there is, The Efco is better on gas than the 310 Stihl, I know the Stihl engine is a going on 15-year-old design (mine is 10), and the 310 has much better power than the 147, so it should burn more gas,

As far as the 147's power, I've bogged the Efco down where the 310 would've 310 kept cutting, I'm sure the chain has a lot to do with that, I'll go with a higher quality chain when I need to replace the stock one on the Efco and see how that helps with cutting,

OK, The Efco blows the Stihl away in cranking, With the compression release, the Efco hasn't failed to fire-up in three-yanks of the cord, And my old shoulder likes that a lot ,,, The Stihl's can be a little cranky in that respect,

The Efco 147 so far, appears to be a good consumer grade saw, I haven't tried taking the covers off to see how maintenance friendly it is yet, Hopefully it is better than the Farm Boss line in that respect, The 310 isn't a Pro grade saw either that lets you take the covers off easily,

Last thing, I looked at the Echo CS-370/400 chainsaws at the Depot but I found a local independent dealer who priced this saw for less than what the box store wanted for the CS-400, That makes it an even sweeter deal for less than 290 ,,,
