Comment: I've had a large pile of sumac branches (non-poisonous) for months in my side yard as a result of some thinning operations earlier this spring. It was very slow progress to hack them apart with a pruning saw and bypass loppers. After seeing the positive reviews, I decided to enlist the aid of the Alligator Lopper for the job. I'm happy to report that it's making quick work of the mess. I had a minor issue with the chain coming off on me in the first 5 minutes, but I hadn't adjusted the tension from the factory setting. It does seem to chew through the batteries, but I'm fairly impressed that it runs on an 18V battery in the first place. It really should come with two like the B&D String Trimmer. Overall though I'm pretty impressed as it's hacking through 4" branches as advertised and I know the metal chain guards are destined to save me from injury at some point in the future.
Note that you'll need to buy chain oil separately. Mine came just came with an empty bottle to help with application.

Comment: My wfe and I just completed 6 days of clearing brush around our Utah home and the Alligator earned a place in our hall of fame for useful tools. It worked flawlessly cutting down scrub oak up to 4-5 inches in diameter as well as countless 2-3 inchers. I even tackled one or two Juniper branches that were in the 8-10 inch range.
Other reviews noted that battery life is low and the oiling system is a pain.
Re: battery life. I could cut more than two hours worth of clean up work on one charge. So if you invest in the rapid charger and a second battery you will be in good shape.
The oiling system IS a bit of pain but nothing too bad.
NOTE: Don't forget to buy chain oil - none is supplied. And the chain oil bottle provided by B&D is lame. Plan on buying your own.
